Water Leaking From Air Conditioner Condenser Requires an Inspection and Tune-Up

One common HVAC issue that usually occurs during summer is leaking water outside the air conditioner condenser. There are multiple factors that cause excessive dripping water, and all of them require immediate HVAC check-up and maintenance service.

Dirty air filters are the number one cause of water pooling in the drip pan. When filters are clogged, the airflow is blocked over the evaporator coil causing it to freeze up. When the ice melts, an excessive amount of water overflows from the drain pan. If you have an older unit, most likely your condensate pan is rusty and may have cracks and holes where water can leak. Furthermore, dirt can also block the drain pipes. A professional HVAC technician may need to use a special vacuum to remove the dirt. Improper installation of the drainage pan can also contribute to water leaking issues.

A continuous water drip beneath the air conditioner can accumulate and turn into a puddle of water. This can lead to humidity in the basement, mold, and pests. Contact Central Plumbing and Heating for a thorough inspection and tune up of the central air conditioner if you see pooling water.
