HVAC Maintenance Tips For Winter in Chesapeake, VA

1. Replace Your Filters

Your filter must be free from dust and clogs to perform effectively. Replacing your filters regularly will ensure your HVAC unit will operate at its maximum potential.

2. Check For Any Obstruction

Check the surrounding of your outdoor unit. Make sure it is clear from debris, now, and ice in the top, sides, bottom and around it.

3. Coils Must Be Cleaned

Outdoor units collect dirt debris. Coils must be cleaned routinely during winter HVAC maintenance. Dirty coils are like clogged filters, they can hamper the performance of your unit. Use a water hose and a cleaning agent to clean the coils. Wash it from the inside out.

4. Blowers Must Be Dust-Free

Indoor blower drives the air out of the system. When the blower is dirty, air may not come out right even though the system seems functioning. Regularly inspect your blowers for dust buildup.

5. Duct Research

Duct systems come in different types. Make sure you are using the right size, otherwise, your HVAC may be breathing through a small hole. Common duct systems are below:

  • Sheet Metal – Durable and mold-resistant
  • Fiberglass Lined – preferred option when you need to prevent condensation
  • Fiberboard – offers sound proofing and thermal advantages
  • Flex – It's a flexible plastic over a metal coil. Low cost, lightweight and easy to setup
