Chronic Clogged Pipe Calls For A Professional Plumber

Darren Kincaid - Thursday, April 30, 2020
Central Plumbing and Heating, Chesapeake, VA

logged pipes will not just cause water to pool on your tub, but much worse, it will also increase the water pressure internally. This will lead pipes to crack or even burst. You need to tap a certified plumber when you encounter the following issues:

  • When drains are significantly blocked. Pipes tend to reverse and overflow when drain pipes are clogged. Water will leak through holes in caulking, pipe threads, and finally penetrates your home. Blockage in the tub will result in water damage in rooms beneath the bathroom.
  • When there's a significant water seepage that can cause premature wear and tear of the walls and disintegrates wood. Know that this also provides a favorable environment for mold growth. In addition, it can invite pesky insects that are damaging to the home structure.
  • When overflow channels of your tub or sink fail. Some cheap sinks and tubs can be worn out easily and cause permanent water damage that are not noticeable until the defect becomes worst-case.

Although homeowners can use a plunger to deal with simple blockages, a persistent clog that can't be cleared by a simple plunger may need the help of a certified plumber. If you are living near Chesapeake, VA and you encountered a complex plumbing issue, don't hesitate to contact Central Plumbing and Heating, Inc.

Tips on Hot Water System Maintenance and Repairs

Your water heating system, if not properly maintained, will eventually deteriorate and breakdown much sooner than average. Fortunately, water heater maintenance can help keep the system working efficiently and extends its life as well.

Gas water heaters has an average life of 8-12 years, whereas electric heaters can last up to 15 years. This greatly depends on the frequency of use and whether the device's upkeep is regularly carried out.

The following are tips on how to tend your water heating system and situations when to call for a professional help.

Flush The Tank

You must flush the tank at least once or twice a year. The water is heated inside the tank before it reaches the shower and faucets. It serves as a storage of gallons of water in which sediments can also remain and accumulate.

When you flush the tank, turn off first the power source and water supply. Insert a hose until it reaches the drain valve and position the other end to an area where you can safely drain the hot water.

To start the water flow out of the tank, open the pressure and drain valves. Connect back the water source to the heating system again when the tank is totally empty. You may now turn on the hot water faucet and wait until the water starts to flow. Turn on the water heater after the water starts to flow out from the faucet.

Check The Pressure Valve

Your water heating system’s pressure valve is an essential component of water heater maintenance.

Checking the valve is easy, however it may also considered dangerous as you will be handling a scalding hot water. Make sure to be careful when you perform your inspection, but you can hire a professional plumber to do the inspection for you which is ideal and more safe.

Begin the inspection process by putting off the power source to the system. (If you are using a gas system, switch off the gas, as this will shutdown the system’s pilot light.) Then, put off the cold water inlet that is going to the system.

Place a huge bucket beneath the pressure relief valve. This bucket will serve as a container for the water that leaves the system. Release the trip valve and let it be filled with 1 to 2 cups of water.

Listen for a flow of air coming out of the system together with some water and vapor. If you don't notice it, you might need to replace the pressure valve.

Change The Anode Rods

Anode rods help minimize corrosion within your tank.

If the system’s tank is empty while the power has been cut off from the system, it requires replacing. A certified plumber can easily perform this task.

Corroded anodes in the system can accelerate the tank’s decay and can be unsafe to everybody in the house if it leads the system to breakdown while being used.

Avoid These Plumbing Issues This Summer

Darren Kincaid - Wednesday, May 09, 2018
Central Plumbing and Heating, Chesapeake, VA

We have had a cool spring, but we all know summer can get very hot in Virginia. It may cause you to take more than one shower in a day just to cool off. It is such an inconvenience when your plumbing system fails during this time. Avoid these common plumbing issues to have a hassle-free summer.

Blocked Shower Drains - Large dirt or debris can clog the shower drain and may cause water pooling in the shower room. Try to manually remove minor clogs to clear the drain but call a trusted licensed plumber when things get out of hand.

Blocked Toilet - Avoid flushing toilet papers or large items that can cause clogging. A plunger can help with minor clogs but have a plumbing service in Chesapeake, VA handle major clogging issues.

Broken Washers - Avoid overloading your washtub or else it could worn out easily. Inspect any kinks and leaks prior to operating it to avoid overflowing.

Damaged Sprinkler Lines - Sprinkler heads can easily be damaged when constantly hit by a lawn mower. Have a certified plumber check your sprinklers and water line system. Necessary repairs should be done as early as possible to avoid further damage and costly repairs.

Faulty Garbage Disposal - Don't let any stray utensils go inside your disposal and avoid overloading it. Have your trusted plumber check and repair it when it suddenly stops working.

Contact Central Plumbing System for any major plumbing system repairs.
